Meet Arrival/Expectations

When swimmers arrive at any meet, it is important that they arrive on time for our team warm-ups. Swimmers should stay in the team area throughout the meet with brief trips to the restrooms or concessions. The team area is for the team. Friends and parents of swimmers should remain in the spectator areas. Swimmers should display good sportsmanship at all times toward opposing swimmers and teams. Swimmers should watch the meet all the way to the end of the relays and actively cheer for their teammates.

Time Trials

Time Trials are held on Saturday, June 13th. Swim times achieved during Time Trials will be used to seed the Saturday dual meets, including relays. For those swimmers who are unable to attend Time Trials, the coaches will use the swimmers time from the preceding summer to seed the first Saturday dual meet, however, preference may be given to those swimmers who swim at Time Trials. After the first dual meet, times from the preceding season will no longer be used to seed the meets. While we realize that some will have scheduling conflicts, we encourage everyone to swim at Time Trials.

A-Meets

A Meets are official NVSL scheduled events taking place on Saturday Mornings in which we swim with other teams in our division. These meets are the competitions with points scored for each race and a winning team declared. Swimmers may swim a maximum of two individual events and one relay event per meet.

Eligibility

Swimmers for these meets are selected based on their fastest times for each swimmer, in each event. Coaches will seed swim meets to provide the TEAM the best chance for winning the meet. This means your swimmer may not always swim their best event.

Meet seeding sheets are finalized and posted by Thursday prior to a swim meet and information is then exchanged with the opposing team for the upcoming Saturday meet. After meet sheets are exchanged, we can only replace missing swimmers with a swimmer who has recorded a slower time in the event where the seeded swimmer is missing. We cannot swap swimmers among events to optimize our swim selections. Please let the coaches and Team Reps know if your child will be unavailable for a Saturday meet in writing no later than the Tuesday before that meet, and earlier if possible.

B-Meets

B Meets are not sponsored by the NVSL and are considered developmental meets. These meets are held to provide competition for the swimmers who do not swim on Saturday and to provide an opportunity for swimmers to get a time in the Individual Medley (IM) or a stroke they did not swim on Saturday to qualify for Divisionals.

The guidelines for B-Meets are as follows:

  1. Swimmer shall not swim any event swum at the preceding NVSL-sanctioned A meet
  2. Swimmers shall swim no more than two events
  3. Swimmers must demonstrate they can swim the stroke legally to be entered in that event
  4. Swimmers will swim in their age groups

Eligibility

As all swimmers are eligible to swim in development meets, in order to compete the swimmer must have signed up via the "Events & Sign Ups" tab notifying they "Will Attend" the B Meet as well as their stroke selection.

This year Mini-Splash deep end swimmers will be allowed to enter in 25m Freestyle - 6 & under events as well.

Divisional Relay Carnival

The NVSL Sponsored Divisional Relay Carnival is a team scored event that will affect our Division standings.  This is a large event as all six Division teams will participate in both freestyle and medley relays. Relay teams with the 18 fastest times across all 17 divisions then swim at the All Star Relay Carnival.

Selection for the Divisional Relay Carnival will be communicated via email.

Please let us know if your child will not be able to attend the Division Relay Carnival.

Points/Awards

During Saturday A meets, swimmers earn the team points; 5-points for 1st place, 3-points for 2nd place and 1-point for 3rd place for each event they swim. Usually there are 6 swimmers per heat. Winning relays are awarded 5 points as well. Swimmers receive ribbons for each of those and ribbons can be found in the hanging folders near the lifeguard office.

Monday “B” meet swimmers receive ribbons for 1st-6th place finishes. Competitor ribbons are also awarded for participation, and each time a swimmer improves a time, he or she will receive a Personal Best ribbon as well.

Mini Splash swimmers will receive a competitor ribbon as well, awarded to them pool-side following their completion of each mini-meet swim.

The end of our season culminates in a division-wide meet (Divisionals) and top performing swimmers receive medals for their performance. These, along with a variety of other awards are presented to swimmers at our end-of-year team party.
